Objectives
- Identify factors predisposing to obesity in dogs and cats,and explain how these factors might influence the outcome of weight management.
- Determine the most appropriate targets and outcomes for weight loss, considering individual circumstances, and design a tailored program for weight management.
- Describe strategies used for weight management in dogs and cats, and outline factors associated with success and recognition of where things commonly go wrong.
- Discuss different techniques that can be used to communicate with owners about pet obesity and demonstrate how they can be used to ensure good compliance with weight management.
- Outline the factors associated with failure of overweight dogs and cats to reach target during weight management or to rebound subsequently.
Develop innovative solutions and compromises when progress with weight loss stalls. - Outline an obesity prevention plan for dogs and cats attending a primary care veterinary practice.
